We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. – Romans 6:4 (NIV)
Easter has always been one of my favorite days of the year. Not because of the traditions or celebrations – although those are memorable and special. The power of Easter is that this one event sets Christianity apart from every other religion in the world.
Over the centuries, thousands of people have claimed to be god. Some built great followings while they were alive. A few even managed to found great religions that still exist to this day. But where are these deities now?
Muhammad is dead. He’s been buried for over a thousand years with no signs of life. Buddha has been cremated, and there have been no reported sightings of him since. Confucius, Lao Tzu – they’re all dead.
But Jesus Christ is alive. And that, quite simply, changes everything. Because our God conquered death, we have no fear of death. Because our God conquered sin, we are given power over it. And because He rose from the grave, we will also rise to meet Him one day.
Christ’s resurrection proves that truth is immortal. You can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there. Christ’s resurrection proves that the power of God is greater than anything else. And that same power lives within us.
Because He lives, the sins of yesterday are forgiven. Because he lives, we can live boldly and victoriously today. And because He lives, we can face tomorrow with confidence and peace.
He is risen indeed.
